The first thing I noticed about the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream is that it is both creamy and oily. The entrance to the tube is filled with cream but a yellowy oil pools around it. Having trialled many nappy rash solutions and preventatives I often find the creams to be better at solving issues and the oils better at preventing them so I was intrigued from the start with this one.
The cream isn’t too thick and blends in very easily, with the help of the oil. Minimal rubbing and both the cream and oil is absorbed into the skin leaving it visibly soft and smooth.
My daughter tends to suffer with dry skin patches and chafing at times so a protective cream is important for us and one that can be used regularly without harming the nappies we use. Having used this cream for several weeks now we have had no issues with build ups or staining on the nappies, thanks to the natural ingredients used. Though, we tend to wash at 60 and rinse twice each cycle so it’s a rare nappy cream that makes any real impact on the nappies.
I was really pleased with how well the oil moisturised my daughter’s dry skin and soothed some of her sorer patches from rubbing. When we used the cream she didn’t have many real issues as we’d been keeping on top of things with another of our favourite nappy salves but I actually found this to be even more effective. It also doubled up as a great moisturiser for cuts and grazes and really soothed my sunburn when I was caught out on a recent unexpected heatwave! So, I can imagine it is very soothing for my daughter’s sensitive skin.
Overall I really liked this product. It smells nice, feels nice and is non-greasy. I liked how soft it made my daughter’s skin and how soothing it was for even myself on my embarassingly red shoulders. For just £6.95 you get 75ml which lasts a long time as a little goes a very long way, I think this represents excellent value for money.
I probaby wouldn’t use this on very sore areas/blisters and expect fast results but it’s great for general soothing and protection from moisture. Definitely one I would recommend for your changing bag!
I’ve given this a 4.5* rating!
